T & D Furniture was selected as the Pearl Chamber of Commerce Business of the Month in October. T & D opened its doors in 1990 on Bierdeman Road in Pearl and quickly outgrew that location. Tom and Diannia Karnes built the current 60,000 square foot building in 1995 and have continued as a respected leader in the furniture industry in Central Mississippi. They have 27 employees that make up the T & D family. T & D purchases most of their upholstered furniture from Mississippi companies and is proud of their large line of unfinished Mountain Pine furniture that is made in Alabama. They also carry a large inventory of rugs, lamps and accessories. Delivery and financing are available. Tom and Diannia’s daughter Tammy Karnes is the General Manager at T & D and serves on the Pearl Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and is actively involved in the community. Brittany Williams, the Customer Service and Sales Manager, is an Ambassador at the chamber and volunteers for the many events that the chamber hosts. The Pearl Chamber of Commerce Business of the Month in September is El Sombrero Mexican Restaurant. El Sombrero serves only fresh authentic Mexican cuisine and also offers a large selection of beer and light wine. They are located at 5746 Hwy 80 East in Pearl near Crossgates. El Sombrero offers daily lunch specials and an extensive list of mouthwatering house specialties. They have a variety of delicious non-traditional menu items such as hot wings, hamburgers and shrimp cocktail and they offer a kid’s menu with all of their favorites included. The Pearl Public Library was selected as the Pearl Chamber of Commerce August Business of the Month. The first library in Pearl opened its doors in 1966 in Bright’s Shopping Center and then later moved to the Hwy 80 location where the first headquarters of the Central Mississippi Regional Library System was established. The current library on Old Brandon Road near City Hall was built in 2005 and is a 25,000 square foot $3.8 million dollar state of the art facility. With a collection of more than 50,000 titles including books and an impressive large print collection, DVDs, books in MP3 and CD format, e-books and video games, there is something for everyone. The Pearl Public Library houses the only computer lab in the Central Mississippi Regional Library System. Wireless internet is available throughout the library and a meeting room that can accommodate 150 people is available for reservation. They also offer a conference room that can seat 12 people and 3 private study rooms. The Pearl Chamber of Commerce Business of the Month in July is the Outlets of Mississippi located at 200 Bass Pro Drive in Pearl. The Outlets of Mississippi is the largest outlet mall in the state boasting 80 stores that offer dramatic savings off of the regular retail price every day. They have been involved in their local community since opening in 2013. The Outlets of Mississippi is currently promoting the “Stuff The Bus” campaign collecting school supplies for the Girls and Boys Club of Central Mississippi. With a donation of a back to school item you can be entered to win a $250 shopping spree! The Back to School Sale is underway now through the month of July when every weekend will feature something exciting and fun. On July 16th a live band will perform outside near the food court and on July 23rd the 2016 Jackson Rhythm & Blues IDOL Competition will be held on the Plaza. The Pearl Chamber of Commerce June Business of the Month is Coffee News. Ed and Marty Douglass bought an existing Coffee News franchise and published their first edition in July of 2008. Adding to the strong history, the little tan paper has now entered it’s 18th year in this market. Coffee News provides affordable advertising with high visibility and is distributed weekly in over 60 locations in Pearl/Richland/Florence. The Douglass’s believe they can serve their advertisers and readers through community involvement, and use the paper to promote Chamber events and family-oriented activities.

The Pearl Chamber of Commerce held a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, May 26 at red river specialties located at 5221 Highway 80 East in Pearl. Red River has been in the area for over 20 years and is the premier provider of herbicides specializing in range, pasture, agriculture and forestry markets. The Pearl Chamber of Commerce Business of the Month in April is Sonic Drive In. Sonic has two locations in Pearl: 3539 Hwy 80 East and 141 S Pearson Road. The Hwy 80 location is one of the oldest Sonics in this part of the State, built in 1974. Rob Goodwin is the GM and he has 4 Assistant Managers and 30 employees. Jack Brown is the Pearson Road GM and has 5 Assistant Managers and 40 employees. The District Supervisor of both Sonic Drive Ins in Pearl is Chris Ransom. Both locations have a booming business and have recently set new monthly net sales records. Customers love Sonic’s extensive menu of burgers, hot dogs, tater tots and chicken sandwiches, but they also love Sonic’s Breakfast Menu with the Morning Drink Stop, which is any Large Soft Drink or Slush for 99 cents from open until 10:00 a.m. Sonic is also very well known for their “Happy Hour” from 2 – 4 p.m. 7 days a week, which is ½ price on all drinks and slushes. Both Sonics are about to add digital boards for ordering, new computers and other upgrades that will make their already good service even faster.
