Officer of the Month

We are happy to announce that the Pearl Police Department Officer of the Month is Matthew Ryals. Matthew graduated from the Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers Training Academy in 2024 and worked for the Flowood Police Department before coming to work at the Pearl Police Department in 2025. Officer Ryals has quickly made his mark at PPD by his unwavering dedication and professionalism. He recently responded to a call along with Pearl Fire Department and immediately sensed that there was a much bigger issue going on in the dwelling. Through keen observation, attention to detail, and steadfast commitment to the mission, Officer Ryals’ actions ultimately led to the discovery of what is believed to be a labor trafficking operation. This type of case serves as a reminder that many crimes are not always immediately visible to the public eye, and that true police work often extends far beyond answering calls for service. It requires initiative, instinct, patience, and the courage to continue digging deeper when something does not feel right.
Because of Officer Ryals’ diligence and fortitude, vulnerable individuals who may have otherwise remained unseen were brought to light. His actions demonstrate the critical role law enforcement plays in protecting those who may not be able to protect themselves and in standing as a barrier against exploitation within our communities.
